In the 1980's it was recognised that there was a need for a village hall in the Colwich and Little Haywood village complex to meet the social needs of the current community, and to cater for the planned influx of new residents.
A committee was set up and fund raising was started. After years of hard work, and aided by a grant from the Parish Council towards the cost of the project, work commenced on the construction of a brand new building on land purchased from the Abbey. The Hall was finally completed in 1989 and it was officially opened by Lord Lichfield in 1991. It is situated at the end of Chilwell Avenue on the St Mary's estate, Little Haywood
A great deal of finishing work on the building was carried out by a group of skilled volunteers, and this voluntary work has continued in subsequent years to improve the facilities inside the Hall, and to improve the grounds and parking area.
The Hall is a registered charity and is managed by an elected committee, and these committee members are trustees of the Village Hall charity. It is totally self funding, raising income from letting fees and fundraising events. Maintenance costs are kept to a minimum thanks to the efforts of the 'work party' on the committee. Apart from fund raising events organised by the Hall committee, all activities are organised and run by the clubs and groups which hire the Hall.
The Hall is equiped and maintained to a high standard, and can be hired for one-off events such as parties, quizzes, weddings etc., as well as for regular club/group activities.
The Hall can be hired for any duration between an hour and a week-end, and hirers tend to pay only for the actual facilities used.
The CALENDAR page shows all booked activities at the Hall and there is plenty of time availble for new regular and ad-hoc bookings.
